Hey Office Furniture Dealers!

Are you marketing differently yet?

The changes brought about by digital communication over the last decade have directly benefited office furniture dealers.  People are spending more time at work - and at home - sitting in front of their computers which means more focus on what they are sitting and working on.

The question is - are you marketing properly to today's Internet-oriented buyers?

"Of course!" you say, "We have a website. That's old news..."

You are right. Websites are old news. Many dealers have developed a few generations of website by now.

"So dawgone it! If the Internet is so important, why aren't we seeing new business from it? And why aren't we showing up on Google?"

Well, here are two of the many ways you should be marketing your dealership differently online...

1) The Long Tail

Way back in 2004, Chris Anderson of Wired Magazine, described an era of customers looking for an increasing amount niche products.  Certain companies take advantage of this fact by being THE source for their wide catalog of needs.  To be THE source is the trick.  Potential buyers need to be able to find your business as they look for unique items online.  And yes they are searching the Internet before they have to actually call you even if you are their regular source.

Online, with our society's increasing proficiency in Internet searching, people don't just look up "office furniture" anymore.  They look up "5 drawer filing cabinets".  They search for "affordable reception desk".  They Google "black office guest chairs".  It goes on and on.  No more are we tethered by the memory of yellow page categories (Some young workers hardly even know what a phone book is anymore!).

Your online marketing needs to be able to cast a big net, collecting these many search variables through keywords strategically placed around your website and code. The Google search system loves this detailed content and will give you higher ranking when specific website t's are crossed and i's are dotted.

Plus with paid ads on Google you can show where you want, when you want for relatively small money.

2) Big point

The new business reality is full of small and medium businesses.  Large numbers of these businesses start it down times.

These new buyers are seeking value.  They can be loyal but are going to give that loyalty to dealers that are on top of technology and service the heck out of them.

Newer buyers don't necessarily know who to call but don't want to seem dumb about your products. In turn they WILL search the Internet first.

Do you find this exhausting?  Sorry but get used to it.
