Yesterday on January 1st, 2008, 5% GST came into affect. Woohoo!
If we estimate that there is just $0.50 for each Canadian returned after the New Year in unwanted Christmas gifts purchased with 6% GST...
And if we suppose retailers who changed their registers to the new tax WON'T give you 6% GST back on the return...
The federal government made an extra tax windfall of $165,000 overnight on the "exchange".
That would easily afford Stephen lunch with me and a few friends at the Toque! in Montreal, one of Forbes most expensive restaurants of the world.
